We are in Honaunau, the same general area as Kealakekua Bay (Captain Cook's monument) and Pu`uhonua O'Honaunau, also known as 'Place of Refuge'. Both bays are now Federal Marine Preserves and protected from fishing of any kind.
Today people come here, all year around, and from around the world to snorkel, and dive because of the fabulous beauty of the coral and wide variety of fish, including Moorish Idols, tangs, triggerfish, trumpetfish, parrotfish, blue stripped snapper, surgeonfish, and many more.
Here at the park, at Pu’uhonua, you’ll find a favorite entry point into the water known locally as "Two Steps" that allows even the novice diver or snorkeler to enjoy the undersea beauty by literally "stepping" into the ocean.
